Girl Guide Cookies and the GMO Controversy

Have you heard the  news?: A Victoria Girl Guide and her Mother have started a  campaign  to boycott Girl Guide Cookies until they remove the GMO ingredients from the cookies. Here is what  National  had to say about it.   Dare says that they conform to Canadian Standards.   Is this fight really not then with the Canadian Standards, should the petition not be to the Government of Canada to limit the use of GMO ingredients in our products? I just heard about this issue last weekend, someone had seen 1 article about it and we had a discussion about how we felt about it.    Today I got an email in my mailbox from a worried Guide leader who had taken her girls out cookie selling and one girl came back in tears having been yelled at for selling poison.   When I logged into my girl guide account I found a whole string of emails about this same issue. here is what I have to say about it: As a long time Girl Guide Member I w...

A summer of Movie Premieres - I love Advanced Screenings!

So i have been lax in writing about all this but I have had an amazing summer of Advanced Movie Screenings! It all started when Mom and I went to see The Heat - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2404463/  at the End of June. This movie was hilarious!  completely UN-PC but seriously funny.   I heard a rumour that they may make a part 2 and I will be lining up to see it.   Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are a hilarious match up and do a great job in this buddy cop movie.    Move over boys - these two are coming for you! Chris and I went to see Red 2 -  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1821694/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1   I personally liked the first movie better, but this one was great as well.   The actors and script stayed true to the characters that had been developed in the first movie and sent them on a new adventure.   I love Helen Mirren and her car chase - shoot em up scene was epic!    However, having watched the trailer...

#bzzagent review - Crest Pro Health Challenge

I did the Crest pro health challenge for just over two weeks and then had to stop.   I have some pro's and a few cons for these products.   First let me tell you about the products: NEW Crest ®  Pro-Health ®  PROFRESH Toothpaste  is a smooth toothpaste, using a Polyflourite System TM  that combines ActivClean Crystals TM  with therapeutic, antibacterial fluoride. It’s an all-in-one toothpaste to fight cavities, plaque, tartar, gingivitis and tooth sensitivity. Oral-B CrossAction ®  Pro-Health ®  Toothbrush  is the all-in-one brush for a cleaner, healthier mouth**, providing 7 oral care benefits for every use Crest ®  Pro-Health™ Multi-Protection Rinse  is an antibacterial mouthwash, killing germs that cause plaque, gingivitis and bad breath (without the burning sensation of alcohol) Pro's: The toothpaste has a good taste and did not leave a sickly sweet taste in my mouth. The toothbrush was gentle and did not hur...

New Bzz Campaign!!! - Crest Pro Health!

I am super excited today!   I just got invited to a new Bzz Campaign for Crest Pro health!   Whats BzzAgent you say? Its an awesome company that connects companies that want feedback on their product with super cool people like me that love to talk about what I like and don't like!    They send me products and I test them out, tell my friends, had out some coupons or other free products and then I tell the world via social media what I think! Some of you may already know that I have had some issues with tooth paste in the past! The culprit is  Sodium lauryl sulfate or SLS; this is the agent that causes toothpaste to lather up (most shampoos, soaps and even lipglosses have it too). Its an irritant and for me it caused INCREDIBLY chapped lips!  Like raw and scaly gross lips! SO WHY USE IT???   I haven't for almost 5 months now!   I have been using Toms of Maine sensitive toothpaste which tastes good and works awesome!   However ...

Permanent or Removable.....that is the question!

So, I have had a few days to reflect on this being 39 thing, and I think I am pretty excited! I am about to enter a totally new phase of my life and this is scary and crazy and wonderful. I think it is apropos that my last year of my 30’s will be met with much great fanfare and celebration all year long. It is after all the 10th anniversary of the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir and as such we have some AMAZING concerts and events happening this year! I have decided that this year will be much like the one that ushered in my 30’s with lots of self reflection, being kind to myself and treating myself they way I should be treated! Thankfully this time I will be doing it with someone I love very deeply by my side! One of the things I have been thinking about it the desire to let go but not forget the lessons I have learned! Life has not always been kind to me; I have had some pretty shitty stuff happen in my life so far. Please don’t take this as any form of Woe is me…just a fact....

My last week as a 38 year old woman!

Wow,   I can hardly believe another year has already passed!   I thought I would tell you about the incredible and amazing last week I had as a 38 year old woman!  Not that I turned into a 25 year old man or anything like that….but 38…holy crap! Monday – I woke up, stressed!   Only a week left till concerts, a job offer on the table but no job, a sore throat and headache and worst of all…a crap load of laundry to do!   So naturally I procrastinated, sent a few emails, watched TV and sewed up my very first tank top!   Off to choir and a great rehearsal! Tuesday – I took that crappy ass tank top to my mom so she could explain to me how I could have possibly ruined this shirt when I followed the pattern and how I am supposed to iron that stupid fabric that won’t crease so I can do a seam??  Well, mom and I ran some errands and then sat down to dissect my sewing job.   Here is what I learned: I rush….slow...

Being Unemployed

As many of you may know I lost my job in September.    I was very optimistic that I would have no issues finding a job, I mean I live in  BC!  Christy Clark told me I am at the head of the BC Job Creation Machine. I joke but its partly true, here I am, I live in a province touting job creation and prosperity and I am VERY good at what I do!   I was let go without cause and told my position was no longer needed.   The very next day my employer, the BC government (the one who told me they were creating jobs) announced a hiring freeze!   No worries right? as I already said, I am really good at what I do!  I mean look at this summary of my skills: • Excellent Working knowledge of many standard computer programs  • Working knowledge of JUSTIN, ROTA, and Maximizer • Lifetime learner – taken several career advancement courses • Bachelors Degree – Major in Psychology and Extended Minor in Criminology  • Excellent customer service, ...

Review - Central City Brewing

This past Sunday my hubby wanted to take me out for brunch to celebrate hallmark day (valentines) and to celebrate that he finally has one day off on the weekend with me again! We have been to Central City Brewing several times and after having breakfast I thought I just had to write and let you fine people know about this place!   They do not have a huge menu filled with a ton of options but they have a good selection of food that they do very very well!.  You can check out their menu here . They produce their own beer under the Red Racer label and it is brewed and shipped out of this location in Central City, Surrey BC.  Many of their menu items have some kind of beer infused item, for example the breakfast meat is cured in beer and it is quite good! Let me tell you about our brunch: Chris had the Denver Omelette which came with two sausages, pan fries and toast.   The omelette was cooked perfectly and was fluffy and filled with...

January 2013

Here we are at the beginning of the new year! No bullshit about how I am going to do this or that, I just dissapoint when I do that! This year Chris and I are looking forward to continue to try for a family, and just generally enjoying our life if that does not happen for us.   We hope to spend lots of quality time with friends and family and we pray that this year will find us in good paying, fulfilling jobs! Speaking of jobs, I am still looking and I hope that if you hear anything you will let me know.   I also ask that you pray for Chris and I while we struggle through this time.   My last severance cheque is on friday and I have two interviews this week.   I have a handful of outstanding applications out as well.   We are trying not to be worried.   We have saved as much as we could and hope that will carry us through.   I can apply for EI on Friday, but that will mean 2 weeks waiting period and that waiting for the first cheque to come. ...
